Greenville SC builder Addison Homes made the pages of BUILDER magazine.
A national publication for the residential construction industry, BUILDER featured a special report on the economics of green home building in its October 2014 issue (pages 74-83).
Everyone knows green building is good for the environment; it’s good for homeowners’ budgets, too. But the editors of BUILDER wondered: is it good for a contractor’s bottom line?
So they profiled the experiences and insights of the country’s leading high-performance builders – including Addison Homes — to explore costs vs. benefits of green construction.
We hope our participation encourages others in the industry to invest in sustainable products, processes and procedures.
BUILDER reports that last year, about half of the top 200 U.S. production builders constructed at least some of their homes to a certified third-party green rating system, according to the 2013 Builder 100/Next 100 survey. In fact, 77 of those 200 builders constructed 100% of their homes to meet the requirements of a third-party program. Conversely, about half report that they did not build any green-certified homes.
The green building industry in the U.S. is growing, as consumers increasingly demand efficient homes that provide minimal energy bills, healthy indoor air quality and low maintenance. In fact, McGraw-Hill Construction’s 2013 Dodge Construction Green Outlook report predicts that by 2016, green homes will comprise 29-38% of the market.
